2022 Results
Investing in our Future
2022 was a year of investing in a better future. As our communities emerge with a wealth of learnings from the pandemic years, we have been able to work with partners to chart a new path forward. We are also investing in the future of the Frey Foundation as we transition fully from second to the third generation leadership. These investments are proud moments of intentionality that declare that the future must not look like the past. We stand determined to build new and better systems, whether it be for housing, childcare, our environment or a more equitable arts community, we are committed to building that better future with our partners.

A Community Responds
Collaborative Effort to Address Childcare Crisis in Emmet County
Access to high quality, affordable childcare is an essential element of a thriving community. In Michigan, there is only one childcare space for every four children under the age of 12. This situation is often even more challenging in Northern Michigan and rural areas, like Emmet County, where more than one third of families pay more than $1,000/month for childcare. The impact of this undersupply is felt throughout the community and North Central Michigan College is responding to this systemic issue. It launched the first phase of its three-phased Child Care Initiative in 2022, pulling together multi-sector partners to develop a community-centered plan for a sustainable and viable local child care system.
